Generation Y has been influenced by the Internet (Myspace, Facebook, chat rooms, blogs, etc) and video gaming (this industry has evolved so rapidly due to this generation that degrees can now be obtained in this field).
Generation X has been influenced by growing up with both parents working/or single parent families, which created a generation who ate out at fast food industries more. They were also influenced by the national economics (the baby boomers were employed, employers going offshore/downsizing, rise and fall of the stock market, etc.), which left a large part of this generation unemployed, still living at home with parents.
Baby Boomers were influenced by their music. This was the age of Rock and Roll and Motown--Elvis, The Beatles, Temptations, Supremes...and American Bandstand. They were also influenced by the Vietnam War, resulting in anti-establishment beliefs and thinking for themselves rather than going along with the status quo.
The Older Generation has been influenced by the Depression, which created a generation of people who shop more for value for their dollars, rather than just a lower price. They were also influenced by the advances in medical technology, which has enabled them to live longer/healthier lives.
generation y has been influenced by technology such as internet, laptops, ipods, cell phones, video games. Also the crashing of the ecosystem i think has influenced generation y also. generation x has been influenced by also advances in new technology but also the change in times with fathers working and then the increase in mothers starting to work the traditional family has started to change and suffer. baby boomer's were influenced by the time of the depression many suffered in that time frame. Also by the wars and I think the thing that helped many through was possibly the escape into music or books possibly. the older generation was influenced by progress. they were never just relaxing, they had to build this country. they didn't have it easy, they didn't have technology that did everything for them and i think that is what influenced them the most.
Gen Y they have lived in a brand conscious world and have been media-saturated. Advertisements would best erach this group on the internet or snowboard tournaments or Cable TV.
Gen X They are more materialistic. They tend to be "savvy and cynical" consumers.
Baby Boomers They were taught to "think for themselves". They love "individualsim." One of the top ways to reach this group is to provide "convenience." They cling to their youth and are very active after turning 50.
Older Consumers They are a big consumer group and need to be considered. Most of the money spent in travel has been spent by this group. They are most interested in value and not necessarily just the price.
jeremy erickson/ Consumers born between 1979 and 1994. The y generation are indulging themselves with technological advantage in a fast-pace world, which is driving companies to market their goods and services in places that will reach the y-ers. Such as the internet, cell phones, videos, any eletronic device to saturate these savvy consumers. Although generation x was more of a political time with war and music they still brought forth technology that the y-ers are buying up. They were more likely to start working, saving money trying to buy a home, then starting college at a early age. The baby boomers goal was the so called american dream get married buy a home raise a family, dad worked and you had stay at home mom. family values seemed higher. Which inturn set a little bit of self values in gen x . Then you have the grandparent which suffered in the great depression. Times were hard, but people stuck together,it was the industrial revolution, people were the work force not computers. Through the span of generation companies have always sought a way to successfully market their goods and services.
Gen Y is influenced by being immersed in newer technology every day and being spoiled by their parents who want them to have better/easier lives than they did.
Gen X has been influenced by the rise in new technology and the change of the traditional family.
Baby Boomers have been influenced by their music and the wars they have lived through.
The older generation have been influenced by the depression and value the importance of a dollar.
2 factors that have influenced the following generations:
Gen Y: Born between 1979 and 1994 the estimated 60 million Generation Y consumers have grown up in a multi-media saturated environment. They are brand conscious, have distinctive buying habits, and are informed consumers that respond to humorous and/or ironic advertising. Advances in technology , WWW and e-commerce has had a major influence on this generation.
Gen X: Born between 1965 and 1978 the estimated 17 million Generation X consumers are the first generation of the latchkey children. They have been raised in a dual income household or a divorced household. They are materialist and cynical consumers. A major influence of this generation was the condition of the national economy impacted by corporate downsizing and corporate out sourcing combined to create a high unemployment percentage rate.
Baby Boomers: Born between 1946 and 1964 the estimated 78 million Baby Boomer consumers cherish convenience. They were pampered as children, raised to think for and of themselves, and encouraged to embrace individuality and competition. This generation was heavily influenced by the Vietnam War and the social changes taking place domestically such as desegregation and human rights issues.
Older Generation: Born prior to 1946. Although, they are estimated to be only 26% of the population, they are a very large consumer group. These consumers are loyal. Medical advances have improved and extended their quality of life. This generation was heavily influenced by the stock market crash and the Great Depression, as consumers they require value for their purchases, not just a lower price.

Generation X is the first generation of latch key kids. This generation spends more than average to resturaunts, alcohol, clothing and electronics. Generation x is also rather adapted to using a lot of tech. They grew up in a free time as well as a changing time. Often both parents would have to work so they had more freedom.
Baby boomer's where raised in the time of music, open drug use and free sex. The time of change from the older had working sort to the freedoms of today.
The Older Generation was influenced by the depression. Strong morals, loyal, and good money savers.
jeremy erickson] Y was faced with the internet and the high-speed world of ever advancing world of technolgy. The bommers wanted a change their music their culture would soon influence what was bought of sold. The oldies depression was their key save and save only buy what you couldn't afford anyways.
